Visit the Farm on the hill
Shacklabank is a small traditional tenanted hill farm in The Yorkshire Dales National Park. It was built by long forgotten hands and is perched on a gentle foothill under the magnificent Howgill Fells. I farm here alone and have been lucky to enjoy the challenges this has brought me over the past twenty years. My aim was to make it pay, to find a way to thrive and survive here amongst the hills. Time has allowed me a closeness and bond to my 37 acres, it has given me a deep connection to this place I call home. I farm alongside nature enjoying a rare freedom and independence that many dream of. My reward is the abundance of wildlife that shares my unique world here in the fells and dales.
I nurture gentle flocks of pure bred native Rough Fell sheep. I produce breeding ewes and use their fleeces in a range of wool tweed clothing. I work each day maintaining gentle uplands, tangled hedgerows and dry stone walls. By my side are trusted sheepdogs Shadow, Drifter and Mac, their dedication and faithfulness is endless.
All seasons share their beauty Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
